Photometry is the core science behind OPTIS’ optical and light simulation software.
It describes light in terms of its perceived brightness to the human eye. Light modeling numerically estimates the science of photometry, utilizing high-speed, non-sequential Monte Carlo techniques to simulate how light propagates in systems.
OPTIS software is like a virtual photometric laboratory, bringing a wide variety of analysis tools together (cross section, contrast, iso-curves, spectral, and chromaticity coordinates). The software takes into account the optical properties of surfaces, materials, and sources using extensive libraries of actual measurement data.

OPTIS software is a comprehensive light modeling package, enabling designers to:
| |
- Analyze and predict stray light, hot spots, uniformity, intensity, irradiance, and illuminance
- Improve visual ergonomics, comfort, and safety
- Check efficiency with active 3D ray tracing in opto-mechanical systems
- Verify that systems comply with customer specifications and international photometric and colorimetric standards, including EULUMDAT, IES, SAE, ECE, ITE, and Avionic MIL
- Simulate ambient lighting conditions, such as sun, fog, and day and night vision before validation
- Validate a system of luminous objects (displays, buttons, lighting, GPS)
in full 3D environments
- Upgrade with optional luminance, radiometry, and colorimetry tools

OPTIS has adopted the International Color Consortium (ICC) standards, and applied them to its range of SPEOS Technology-based software.

The SPEOS technology is integrated in 3 of the world’s most widely used CAD software : SOLIDWORKS® and CATIA V5® by Dassault Systèmes, and Pro/ENGINEER® by PTC.
